All this talk about eggs laced with toxins makes some of us avoid an excellent whole food, eggs.
Eggs from a family farm are healthy food, whole food. What we need to avoid is eggs and chickens from factory farms, CAFOs where crowded, unsanitary conditions can breed dangerous bacteria.
Dr Mercola recommends eggs as healthy food. Buy eggs from someone you know, maybe someone in your neighborhood. His rather lengthy article is below. The article is a little long, but interesting, especially if you’re playing with the idea of having a few chickens in your back yard…

Thank you for this valuable post. It changed my approximation
Fascinating! We started purchasing whole animals from the local farm last year, and it’s working out really well for us. We found a great website with lots of great dishes like this meat recipes to keep us going.
We did like that too, purchasing beef whole from the local farm. I like to support them, even if it is a more expesnive than the supermarket, because I know exactly how and where it is made, I know I’m not contributing to global warming or something. These meat recipes are great, I found.
Drew,
You are so correct. John and I also buy locally grown (grass fed and finished) beef from a rancher friend. Ours is actually cheaper than what I might buy at the grocery (natural/organic). but we’re lucky to live in a ranching area where it’s available. Not everyone has that. Same with eggs. Many people raise chickens around here. I know the people and how they keep their hens. As you say, I like to support this lifestyle.
And thanks for the beef recipes! I’m checking out that website; thanks for the link. the beef is good, too, in a crock pot. I found a fabulous cookbook, “Not Your Mother’s Crock Pot,” with new ideas. Crock pot saves time, too. Thanks, Drew!

Toi,
Do you know Drew Swarts? Your comment is similar. I love the idea of folks taking the bull by the horns and doing something about a taxing situation. Love that you’re purchasing your own meat and that you know where your meat is coming from. there’s more of that take-control-of-my-own-life-thankyou attitude around than we know. That’s where our strength can come from. thanks so much for the comment, Toi,

Drew Swarts,
I think I might have answered your comment before. I checked the meat recipes link you gave. thanks for the ideas. I use the crock pot quite a bit. Makes meal preparation easier when it’s done ahead.
